A Hydrographic Survey is a survey conducted with the purpose of mapping the coastline and seabed for navigation, engineering, or resource management purposes.

With the combination of Hydrographic sounding equipment and GPS, accurate depths of lakes and waterways can be measured and digitally modeled for a variety of end user studies including depths, volumes, contour lines (isobaths) and profiles.
