As a design firm with multiple in-house disciplines and capabilities, we are able to create distinctive projects within the framework of common sense and economic realities. Additionally, due to the comprehensive and extensive use of our Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) System, we are capable of providing greater design flexibility and accuracy during all phases of a project.

Our Engineering and Surveying departments use Autodesk’s Land Development and Civil Design and our Architectural department uses Autodesk’s Architectural Desktop.

Mahlon J. Plumb

Mahlon Plumb, Founder and Chairman of the Board for Plumb, Tuckett and Associates, Inc. (PTA) is a Professional Engineer and a former Professional Land Surveyor.   Semi-retired, Mahlon currently serves PTA as Structural Engineer and Senior Civil Engineer.
  He is a Professional Engineer with licenses in Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Oklahoma, Missouri, Alabama, Kentucky, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Mahlon is also an Illinois licensed Structural Engineer.

Fields of specialization include bridge inspection and rating, repair of moveable and pin connected bridges, erection schemes and jacking procedures, subdivision design, general land surveying and extensive testing of actual stresses in railroad bridges with AREA Comm. 30.

Past experience includes lecturing on bridge inspection (in three states), serving as bridge engineer for a dozen small railroads, and serving as part-time Gary City Engineer. Mahlon was selected as Indiana Civil Engineer of the Year in 1978 by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Indiana Branch.
Donald L. Plumb

Don Plumb, Company President and CFO, Land Surveyor, joined PTA in 1973. Don is an Indiana Licensed Professional Land Surveyor.
  In addition to managing all aspects of company business, his responsibilities include civil and survey project coordination and implementation, contract negotiations, expansion and development, and client contact. Don oversees all GPS (Global Positioning Systems) projects, performs ALTA/ACSM and boundary surveys prepares legal descriptions, and is involved in the subdivision design process.

Geoff Grant, Professional Engineer, is an Indiana Licensed Professional Engineer and joined PTA in 1992. As the staff Civil Engineer.
  Geoff performs the engineering design for commercial, industrial and residential subdivisions.

He is responsible for site plans, storm water drainage plans, roadways, parking lots, erosion control plans, sanitary sewers, water lines and utility plans for new and existing sites.
Glen E. Boren

Glen Boren, Land Surveyor, joined PTA in 1993 and is an Indiana Professional Land Surveyor. Glen has a Masters Degree from the Department of Civil Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, with a specialization in Land Surveying and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Technology from Purdue University Calumet, Hammond, Indiana.
  Glen also holds Associate Degrees in Applied Science in both Architectural Engineering Technology and Civil Engineering Technology from Purdue University Calumet. Glen's duties at PTA include deed research, preparing legal descriptions for parcel conveyance and easements, data collection, field staking, data reduction, and preparation of final drawings or plats of various types of terrestrial surveys including boundary, construction, topographic, A.L.T.A./A.C.S.M. Land Title, GPS Control and Surveyor Location Reports (mortgage surveys). In addition to his work at PTA, Glen has served as a Teaching Assistant (TA) at Purdue University for various surveying classes and received the 1998 Magoon Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award. Glen is actively involved with the Indiana Society of Professional Surveyors and was the 2002 I.S.P.L.S. Northwest Chapter President and is the current Northwest Chapter Scholarship Committee Chairman.

He is also a guest lecturer for the CET 208 Route Surveying and the CET-209 Subdivision Design classes at Purdue University Calumet.

Ken Gembala, Land Surveyor, joined PTA in 1995. Ken is Survey Department Manager and is licensed to practice Land Surveying in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin.
  In addition to managing the Survey Department and scheduling fieldwork, Ken is an instructor of various surveying courses at Purdue University Calumet, Hammond, Indiana.

Sonya Rhody, Architect, joined PTA in 1998. Sonya holds Bachelor Degrees in Architecture and Environmental Science and is a Licensed Architect.
  Responsibilities include overall management for a variety of projects, including client contact, scheduling, budgeting, and overseeing daily design and technical development.

Serving the Architectural, Engineering and Surveying Departments at PTA, Sonya's experience includes computerized drafting of industrial, commercial, veteran’s clinic, and residential projects from preliminary design through construction documentation, soliciting bids and subcontractors; and observing and assisting in construction management.

Computer knowledge includes Microstation Cad Software, AutoCAD, Windows NT Server, Windows NT Workstations, Lotus Smartsuite Applications, and Microsoft Office Applications
Gregory A. Howarth

Greg Howarth, Survey Technician I, joined PTA in 1990 and is the PTA Survey Supervisor, CAD Technician, GPS Specialist.
  Greg’s GPS experience includes planning and execution of "Phase I" of the "Indiana HARN", Mapping Control for Hammond, Munster, Merrillville and Plymouth, Indiana, control for land and hydrographic profiles for a 17-mile long Corps of Engineers Indiana Lakeshore Project and 92 miles of track profiles of a commuter railroad track.

Greg has trained with NGS personnel for scheduling, execution and reporting procedures. Greg’s duties include performing topographic surveys, FEMA Flood Certificates, boundary surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title surveys and construction layouts of commercial and residential projects. These task includes the coordination of fieldwork with crews, utility companies and owners. Determine and set boundary lines. Review and address Title documents and provide plat to surveyor that adheres to specific standards, including error of closures, positional accuracy, encroachment, monuments, easements, improvements, areas access, flood zones, utilities etc.

His duties also include control for many smaller projects, software reduction of baselines, analyzing results, adjusting control networks and report generation, survey of business complex/retail centers, and hazardous waste sites. Additionally, Greg has received hazardous waste site training according to O.S.H.A. requirements.
Michael L. Plumb

Mike Plumb, Survey Technician I, joined PTA in 1992. Mike is a PTA Civil and Survey CAD Drafter and Field Crew Chief, working primarily with PTA Engineers to draft designs on the computer.
  Mike creates the engineering drawings for storm drainage and sewer designs with plans and profiles, works with contours and TINs, and drafts surveys from Surveyor Location Reports to the most involved ALTA/ASCM boundary surveys. Mike creates point files for field staking for boundaries and the construction layout of curbs, roads, sewers, ponds and buildings. He also works as a Crew Chief for locations and construction staking.

Additionally, Mike is in charge of building, setup, networking, and maintenance of the PTA computer system.
